The Aztecs (Mexicas) were a nomad tribe with its origin in Aztlan (Northern Mexico), but based on their Gods instructions, they had to settle where they find an eagle devouring a serpent on top of a cactus (nopal). They found this sign in the middle of a lake in the central part of Mexico and founded the city of Mexihco-Tenochtitlan in 1324.
For this reason, MEXIHCO (traditional nahuatl dialect) is the original name of what we now know as Mexico City.
